Did you catch a bright shooting star trail across the sky tonight? Many people have reported meteor sightings across the US East Coast and sent the web abuzz. NASA's Donal Yeomans said "they appear to be consistent with a meteor shower." according to WCVB.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) has heard from hundreds of people located through the East Coast of North America. The meteor that lit up the night sky was spotted from Canada to Florida.

People took out their cameras and smart phones to capture the phenomenon by photos and videos. Plenty shared their sighting on social media networks.

Many people noticed that the meteor was quite large and appeared to be very close to the earth. It could be a fireball meteor, which is a meteor that is larger than the normal size of tiny pebbles.

The Washington Post reported that the AMS receive many reports that "an object landed just over the hill when in fact it was several hundred miles away and was witnessed over several states or provinces."

Meteor showers can be very beautiful and many people arrange time to enjoy the beauty of mother nature's light show.

The next meteor shower named "Lyrids" is expected to active from April 16 - 25th of 2013 with the peak nights on April 21st and 22nd.
