Katy Perry and John Mayer Break Up Reason? From Potentially Engaged to Single, Mayer Can't be Tamed

Why did Katy Perry and John Mayer break up last week? Up until the point the two split, reports were up in the air about the two getting really serious about each other and potentially getting engaged. Many believed that there was a possibility that long-time playboy John Mayer was finally tamed.

About one month ago, Mayer described his relationship with Perry in a very positive light to CBS Sunday Morning. He said, "For the first time in my life I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship. I really don't. I'm not in a high profile — I know it's high profile. It's hard to explain."

When asked if he was considering marriage, his response was "Of course. I mean, I'm still the kid from Connecticut. That's what you do."

Some reports said that Perry was hurt
Some reports suggest that their relationship became too serious, too soon. According to US Weekly, a source said, "Introducing her to his dad was a big deal. It was just too much, too soon. They've also been fighting recently."

The person continued, "They've broken up before so it's hard to tell. She's changed a lot since she's been with him… [you] can't argue that she has been in love."

Who knows - Mayer may have been scared off by her devout Christian parents.

People Magazine reported that an insider revealed that Mayer was using Perry to stay in the spotlight.

"He's very defensive and comes across as extremely jealous of her career. He's basically using Katy, who fits into his plan to stay in the spotlight right now."

That could be why there are also reports that Perry is very "upset" about the break up. “She is making it seem like it wasn’t serious with John, but she is hurt," one insider told Hollywood Life.

“She doesn’t want to get her heart broken again. But she feels a real connection and wants to see where things go.”

Mayer, 35, and Perry, 28, had dated before Perry wed Russell Brand. After a 14 month marriage that ended in divorce, Mayer and Perry gave it a shot again starting in July of 2012.

One more source told US Weekly, "It's not over until it's over," alluding to a possibility that the two may be on just a short break. Do you want to see Perry back together with Mayer?
