Deadpool fans were undoubtedly disappointed when it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson will not be working with his Marvel comic book partner Cable in his first feature film. However, the actor may have just confirmed that the duo will finally be reunited in the sequel!

According to Comicbook.com, Reynolds surprised fans who have attended a Deadpool fan event in New York City when he announced that they will be treated to an advanced screening of the movie. In addition to that, the actor sat around to answer fan questions when the film was over.

At one point, Reynolds mentioned that he is interested in doing more Deadpool films, and the fans immediately applauded. One fan called out, "Cable and Deadpool!" and instantly got a promising response.

"Your lips to God's ears, my friend," Reynolds said to the fan. "Believe me, that's being talked about."

It certainly sounds like a Deadpool sequel featuring his time-travelling buddy is something that everyone wants to see. Director Tim Miller has previously said that the second film must have Cable unless they want to be "run out of town," so the character would most certainly be a part of any sequel.

Cable is the son of Scott Summer and Jean Grey, who happens to be a time-traveler who wants to change things in the past to make a better future. The character has proven to be a successful partner for the Merc with the Mouth, since their joint comic book series Cable and Deadpool was well accepted from 2004 to 2008 before it was cancelled.

But who could possibly play Cable in the heavily-discussed sequel? Deadpool writer/artist Rob Liefeld already has a favorite that he shared on Twitter.

It may still be a long wait before we find out if Jon Hamm ends up playing Cable, but it would be worth the wait. Deadpool will premiere on February 12.
