"Django wasn't the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead!" Will Smith told Entertainment Weekly in regards to him turning down the role of the vigilante former slave Django in the Quentin Tarantino blockbuster, "Django Unchained."
Smith wanted Django to be more of the lead character in the film stating that he wanted to "kill the bad guys." The "Ali" actor even pleaded with Tarantino for Django to have a more significant role like the bounty hunter (played by Christoph Waltz). "I was like, 'No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy,'" Smith told Entertainment Weekly.
Smith sentiments could have been forsesite, Jamie was promoted as the lead role, however it was Waltz who brought home the Oscar for best supporting actor. While Smith said that the film was "brilliant" it was just not for him.
The Men in Black actor, has yet to have his Oscar moment, but he will star in the sci-phi film "After Earth," alongside his son Jaden Smith.
