Lil Wayne may have thought of himself as the "best rapper alive" before his recent seizures landed him in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, but now he has the online influence to prove it. Weezy soared to his highest spot ever (2) on the Billboard Social 50, a chart measuring internet popularity via YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram metrics. The I Am Not A Human Being II rapper could use this new influence to push his new album, but instead he used it to represent for his baby mama Lauren London and her TV show, BET's "The Game."

London returned the love, tweeting that everyone should check  out Wayne's latest effort I Am Not A Human Being II.

Lauren London is an actress and has a son named Cameron with Wayne. She returned to "The Game" for the first time since 2006 last night, playing a former child star.

The rappers popularity spike was triggered by (false) reports that the rapper was in a coma and on his deathbed. TMZ claimed that the rapper had been read his last rites. The reports took the social web by storm with Lil Wayne's Twitter mentions alone increasing by 1,360% to 771,000. Wayne's tweet claiming "I'm good everybody" was retweeted 194,000 times.

Lil Wayne's sudden uptick in online popularity wasn't enough to unseat the reigning king, Justin Bieber. However, he did displace Rihanna and One Direction, who fell to 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Unfortunately for Wayne, the sudden interest did not trigger album sales. His sales total for the week ending March 17 dropped 6%.

What do you think? Will Lil Wayne's popularity last? Was it nice of him to use the attention to bring up the mother of his son?
