It's been 30 years since Top Gun came out in all its '80s glory, cementing Tom Cruise's status as an all-around superstar as he played the role of Maverick alongside Val Kilmer's Iceman. Now, the Oscar-nominated actor is apparently in talks of sequel: original producer Jerry Bruckheimer just posted a picture of the two of them on Twitter, teasing a comeback of the classic story.

According to Polygon, the famed Hollywood producer posted a snap of himself with Cruise last Tuesday, saying the two had met up to "discuss a little Top Gun 2," which is obviously something a lot of people have been waiting for a very long time.

It took them much too long!

If you feel the need, you're not the only one: there's been talk of a sequel to the beloved buddy movie for months now, ever since Kilmer went on Facebook to reveal he'd been offered to reprise his role from the 1986 film. Of course, the Batman Forever actor later said he'd jumped the gun sharing that bit of information.

Buzz about the sequel carried on when Cruise told The Daily Mail that he'd welcome the opportunity to play Maverick again, but he had one demand about the project.

"It would be fun. I would like to get back into those jets," said the actor. "It would have to be practical. I don't want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one."

Cruise has had his share of work with CGI with the Mission: Impossible franchise, so it makes sense that he'd like to keep things simple and retro to go back to one of his first famous roles.

The original 1986 film was directed by Tony Scott, who tragically died in 2012. At this point, it's still unclear who would helm the sequel if it were to really happen.
