Tyra Banks is gave the world something to talk when she shocked everyone by announcing that she and her longtime boyfriend, Norwegian photographer Erik Asla welcomed a son named York Banks Asla into the world on Tuesday night.  Now Asla has posted about being a new father and called the experience "life's greatest gift."

MStars News previously reported that Banks posted news about the birth of her new son via Instagram presenting his newborn hospital cap revealing that the couple's "best present" was finally here.

Using the same photo, new dad Asla reacted to the birth of his first son by captioning the image, "Witnessing the dawn of life is quite possibly life's greatest gift."

It's been a long journey for the supermodel and entrepreneur, who has for years talked about her struggle having a child. Baby Asla was born by a gestational surrogate.  Last year, Banks cried on her talkshow, FABLife while talking about infertility.

"When I turned 40, the one thing I was not happy about is that I did not have kids," Banks told her viewers. "I'm like, 'Damn, the clock is ticking!'"

After pushing back the idea of motherhood while focusing on modeling it now seemed like the birth of her son would never come because she thought it was too late.

"Since I was 24, I used to say every year, 'I will have kids in three years,'" the Americas Next Top Model host recalled. "I kept saying it over and over again. Because my business is very entrepreneurial. I'm not for hire, so I have to do everything. I kept trying to find that time for that to happen."

Now her time has finally come, and according to the new mother her newborn son has her big eyes, and his father's mouth and chin.

In a statement to People, the excited mother said, "We are so excited for our new baby boy bundle of joy. The journey to now has not been an easy process, as I've shared before. But there was a beautiful bright light at the end of the tunnel for me and his father, Erik."

Thankful for her miracle child, Banks said that she thought a lot about others who were struggling to become parents. "As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day. My hopes and dreams are filled with well wishes that they get to feel what my little treasure, York Banks Asla, feels like in my arms."

Congratulations. Welcome to parenthood!
