Sony Pictures Home Entertainment brings terror all in one place with Home Invasion, which arrives on DVD and Digital HD. In an exclusive interview with MStars News, actress Natasha Henstridge (Species) talks about her co-stars Jason Patric (The Lost Boys) and Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2) in her new psychological thriller.

As we previously mentioned, Home Invasion follows a wealthy woman named Chloe (Henstridge), who happens to be targeted by a trio of expert thieves with her stepson in their remote mansion. Her only form of help comes from a call with a security systems specialist (Patric). As the terror ensues, the intruders (Adkins) become increasingly hostile and the connection between the specialist and Chloe wavers. Should Chloe trust the voice on the phone to be her open eyes and navigate her to safety?

Before Home Invasion arrives in stores on February 2 on DVD and Digital HD, Natasha Henstridge dishes on playing the lead role, being scared by her co-stars, and finding time for comedy.

MStars News: Tell me how you became involved in the project?

Natasha Henstridge: How did that happen? You know what, It was just through my agents. I didn't know anybody involved actually. So I just got a call! That's a really good question! I still don't know to this day how it all came about! [Laughs]

Maybe I was on a list and they went through it. I have no idea but I remember getting it. And I was thinking, this could be a fun challenge. This is going to make me feel really uncomfortable and that's exactly what I need to do right now. I was on the edge of my seat when reading it. I also thought this is going to be challenging and I need to do something like that.

MS: You've played such strong and tough women like Melanie Ballard in Ghost of Mars and Cassie McBain is She Spies. How does Chloe compare?

NH: I think Chloe had a lot to lose. In terms of the She Spies character, Cassie was much more tongue in cheek . And this is much more based in reality. Melanie Ballard from Ghost of Mars she was definitely, you know, funny enough. I wouldn't have linked the two characters at all but when I think about it, being in survival mode, getting to the next moment, that you're going to be able to survive. There are some similarities between Chloe and Melanie in that way quite frankly.

MS: And what is that interested about Chloe?

NH: With Chloe, the stakes are quite high. I think in this particular movie, in Home Invasion, because there's a child involved, I think when the lion momma comes out, you're protecting a child, it's bigger than you and bigger than your own life . And it's bigger than even sometimes saving the world and this and that. And it's a very personal thing to save a kid's life; so in that way I think the stakes are much higher

MS: Tell me about working with Scott Atkins and Kyra Zagorsky. How did they add to the fear?

NH: I don't know if Scott's a method actor or not. I remember that I did not need to act that much because he did such a wonderful job with that character. We didn't talk a lot. We didn't spend a lot of time together. We didn't become chummy. We weren't friendly and I think that was probably a choice on both of our parts, to keep our distance and keep some mystery.

MS: How did you react when you saw him in he mask?

NH: When he came up to the door in that mask, I was going to the front door, it was genuinely jarring! I remember even screaming during rehearsal because he commands so much. And he has a real presence. He was terrifying in a very understated kind of way, so that was easy. That part was really easy.

MS: And Kyra Zagorsky?

NH: And Kyra, she was having so much fun with it. She was like Catwoman! It was to bring that kind of sexiness to this role. She was brilliant and I had a good laugh together. We didn't have so much to do together. So it made it a little bit easier. I thought all their characters were really fleshed out. Instead of "Hey throw a group together and have them break into the home." I mean, they felt very specific to their characters and I loved that about them.

MS: Tell me about being on the phone and reacting to the lines of dialogue from Jason Patric.

NH: That was interesting! I went up there a couple days early and did some off camera dialogue for Jason. You know, unfortunately with scheduling and how movies go, and the way people are hired, and so on and so forth, he was not there when I was doing my entire thing.

So initially, I had a script supervisor. When you are doing an entire movie on the phone, you definitely need some help. I had a script supervisor initially running lines and it just became apparent. I really need an actor. I really needed someone to work with. So they hired an actor to come in off-camera to run lines with me. And he was fantastic. I think he was Australian and he just did such a great job, He gave such a great performance off-camera that no one will ever see. That helped so much! It's so many of the things that we don't see on camera that help performances and make such a big difference that we don't acknowledge enough. But he was fantastic! He gave me everything I needed and more and it was very helpful.

Because also, we are stuck with a script supervisor every time you see these phone calls in movies. And these bits and pieces where someone's not there, you're just talking to somebody sitting next to the director or somebody who volunteered to run the lines with you in their monotone voice, just trying to get it done. You're acting and reacting to them. So whenever you can have an actor help you out with that, it's great! Particularly like I said in a movie where the entire performance is basically on the phone.

MS: you've done comedy like South Park and The Whole Nine Yards, what's tougher being funny or being scared like in Home Invasion?

NH: What I find very interesting, I'm working on something right now, I was just talking to my co-star about this, who's incredibly funny in person. He said himself how difficult it is to translate funny into somebody else's script, somebody else's words timing.

We were working with an actor who was just so naturally funny. I just thought, "God he's brilliant! He's got the timing down when you think of Amy Schumer and all these people. It's the timing and the delivery that's not easy. I know a lot of funny people in life that are hysterical in life, but to translate that into a script is very difficult. I see why there are few and far between that are really great at it. I think that would be even more difficult on some level.

That being said, doing high drama is tough as well as playing a strong character, comes quite naturally to me. I can't say that's that wouldn't be at the top of my list of difficulty because that I think it seems to come more naturally. It's just funny because most people say, I'm really funny and they're like, "Why don't you do comedy?" And I get that all the time but translating comedy is very different

MS: What are you working on ow?

NH: I'm actually doing my first horror movie at the moment. It's called The Black Room. It's the first time I've ever done horror and it's kind of in the '70s style. It's not totally tongue in cheek but it's definitely got some kind of a '70s vibe, definitely like a lot of horror films do. This one's a little less based in reality, I would say a little bit heightened in reality and it's pretty fun!

Home Invasion comes out on DVD and Digital HD on February 2.
