15-year-old Malala Yousafzai, a victim of a Taliban shooting who miraculously survived, is set to pen her memoir, "I Am Malala," in order to share her account of the terrifying attack on her way home from school last year. 3 Taliban members shot her in the head and the neck, but she has since recovered and now attends school in the United Kingdom. Literary publisher Weidenfeld and Nicolson announced it would release the book in Britain and Commonwealth countries this fall. Little, Brown and Co. will publish the memoir in the United States and the rest of the world.

"I want to tell my story, but it will also be the story of 61 million children who can't get education," Malala said in a statement released by Weidenfeld and Nicolson. "I want it to be part of the campaign to give every boy and girl the right to go to school. It is their basic right."

The Little, Brown and Co. executive vice president, Michael Pietsch, said: "Malala is already an inspiration to millions around the world. Reading her story of courage and survival will open minds, enlarge hearts, and eventually allow more girls and boys to receive the education they hunger for."

Mstarz covered the story of Malala Yousafzai back in October. Here is an excerpt from that article:

The young girl has become a national hero for her courageous acts, and since her shooting she has received global attention. Other world leaders including Pakistanis condemn the shooters who are linked to the Taliban.

Once the government gained control of the Swat Valley, Yousafzai began speaking out against the Taliban at the age of 11. The girl's father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, also runs the school for girls and said that she had been receiving threats for years and she believed that her community was her protection.

Taliban spokesman said Yousafzai was targeted for spreading Western culture and that she would be attacked again until she is killed. Authorities say that her attackers have been identified and a 10 million rupee reward is available if they are captured.
