The Green Bay Packers want Eddie Lacy to do something for them this offseason. It's nothing really; a minor request. They have politely asked their star running back to lose 30 pounds by the start of next year.

OK, that's not minor. That's a request that carries some serious weight.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy was outspoken during and after the season about Lacy needing to shed a few pounds. And he may just have a point, too.

Lacy is coming off his worst year as a professional. He put up career lows in rushing attempts (187), yards (758), and touchdowns (3). By contrast, over the course of his first two seasons in the league, Lacy racked up over 2,200 yards rushing. He looked to be a step slower this year, and lacked the mobility he needed to be as affective as his previous two seasons, as was evident on his 61-yard romp down the field in the NFC divisional round against the Arizona Cardinals.

The former Alabama running back's struggles lead to his benching in November. Although, he would go on to regain the starting role again.

And while 30 pounds may seem like a lot, Lacy is apparently on board with the request, willing to take part in a camp or go through a fitness program. He even has an offer from world renowned trainer and P90X creator, Tony Horton, to help trim the fat and become a lean mean green bean eating machine (quick speculation as to what that would mean: no more cheeseburgers, ice cream is off limits, bacon is to be thrown in the trash, and kale smoothies become a way of life--Tony is cutthroat).

Lacy has been a huge part of the Packers success over the past couple of seasons, and if they are to challenge for a Super Bowl again, they'll need Lacy at his best. Which is apparently 30 pounds lighter.
