Lovers of the first season of the podcast Serial are in good luck. Host Sarah Koenig is revisiting the Adnan Syed case from season one that riveted people all around the world. The podcast, currently in its second season, will be releasing short episodes following Syed's latest hearing.

Fans will recall that Syed, now 35, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his high school love, Hae Min Lee, back in 1999. In February of 2015, following the aftermath of Serial and its intense popularity, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals approved Syed's application for an appeal. A few months later, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals remanded the case to Superior Court, citing the admissibility of testimony by Asia McClain (who, in the podcast, reveals she saw Syed at the library during the time the murder reportedly took place).

Appeal lawyer for Syed, Justin Brown, also plans to review the cell tower evidence, saying it "was misleading and should never have been admitted at trial." In November, Baltimore City Circuit Judge Martin Welch ordered Syed's post-conviction relief case to be officially re-opened.

Now, Koenig and producer Dana Chivvis are covering the new three-day hearing for the podcast. "This week I'm going to do something I haven't done before, which is duck back into Adnan Syed's case for a few days, to report on a court proceeding that's happening in Baltimore," Koenig explained on this week's first mini episode.

So far, Koenig and Chivvis have covered days one and two of the proceedings. Koenig details how the first part of day one was spent establishing that Syed's original defense attorney, the late Cristina Gutierrez, had been declining "physically, professionally, financially," and was therefore not as competent as she could be.

She also details McClain's testimony, which she calls "intense."

Season 2 of the podcast, which so far has covered the desertion case of Bowe Bergdahl, will continue as planned. The mini updates on season 1 can be listened to on Serial's website, iTunes, Pandora and podcast apps.
