Comedienne Joan Rivers has always been one to speak her mind regardless of the consequences and it seems like her comments on Adele are no exception. The 79-year-old comedy legend tore into Adele on a Feb 26 appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, referencing the fact that the 24-year-old singer is a bit on the chubby side.

"She was very scared because she was singing at the awards. She kept saying, 'My throat, my throat -- I don't know if I can swallow,'" Rivers said. "And I said, 'Oh, yeah! You can swallow," Rivers said

In an interview with HuffPost Live, the interviewer gave Rivers a chance to backpedal on her statements. Ever the provocateur, Rivers took the opportunity to double down on her statements.

"It's not mean. She's a chubby lady who's very, very rich, and she should just calm down -- or lose weight!" Rivers explained. "She wanted an apology, so I took an ad out on her ass. I said, 'You are not fat.' And then I had room for a lot of other ads," Rivers quipped. "Adele is beautiful and successful and has what, $100 million? Let's face reality: she's fat!"

Rivers has made a living off of insulting people. The comic is notorious for decimating members of her audience as well as fellow celebrities, and has spent the last few years pointing out fashion missteps on Fashion Police.

In 1985, she famously told Oprah Winfrey that "she must lose the weight" after the mogul gained 50 pounds.

More recently, she has taken on Christina Aguilera for being a few pounds heavier than her "Genie in a Bottle" days. After Aguilera botched the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, Rivers said "She looked like a pig. How stupid can you get? Christina must have been thinking about food. That's why she forgot the words."

Aguilera confronted Rivers over the slam and Rivers turned it into yet another punchline on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

"I'm at Spago's with [my daughter] Melissa and we're eating dinner," Rivers recalled. "And Fatso is across the way, and she comes lumbering over with that no-neck look. And I go, 'Here it comes.' She comes over to my table and says, 'You gonna finish that?'"

What do you think? Should Joan Rivers apologize to Adele for her "chubby" comments? Or should we let Rivers off the hook (after all, she is a comedian)?
