Gaga Gets 'Aladdin Sane' Tattoo Before David Bowie Grammy Tribute

In preparation for her tribute performance at the Grammys on Monday, Lady Gaga paid her respects to David Bowie with new ink of his iconic Aladdin Sane album cover.

 "This was the image that changed my life," wrote Gaga on Snapchat, where she shared a short clip of the process. 

According to The Mirror, legendary tattoo artist Mark Mahoney is the man behind Gaga's body artwork, which was done at Mahoney's Shamrock Social Club parlor in West Hollywood, where crowds gathered to get a glimpse of the "Applause" singer.

The tat is on the left side of Gaga's ribcage, below a tattoo of an anchor.

People Magazine reports that Gaga shared the step-by-step process of her new tattoo over the course of the past Sunday, also saying "Hail Mary full of grace Saint Bowie."

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has been heavily influenced by Bowie, real name David Jones, in terms of music and image. Much like Bowie, Gaga also has a background in studying music.

Gaga had been scheduled to sing at the Grammys before Bowie's passing, but producers decided her performance would be the show's sole, grand tribute to the late star.

Just before news of Bowie's death was made public, Gaga herself reached a high point in her career: She received a Golden Globe award for her acting work in American Horror Story: Hotel.
