All four members of indie British band Viola Beach died instantly in a horrific car accident that occurred in Sweden last Saturday.

The band's manager was also killed in the crash. Swedish authorities are left questioning why the car went through a barricade that was put in place earlier.

According to the BBC, the band members who died are Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, while their manager was Craig Tarry. The five men died when the rental car they were riding plunged to a depth of approximately 82 feet. The car dove from a highway bridge and fell into a canal. Divers were eventually hired to recover the bodies.

The police stated they were not certain why the driver of the vehicle ended up driving through a barrier that was meant to keep motorists out. Flashing lights and warning signs were stationed at the site. The police did point out that the area was dark and the roads were in a slippery condition when the accident occurred.

Martin Bergholm, spokesman for the Stockholm Police, reported that all victims were aged between 20 to 35.

"There were no brake marks on the road and it's very difficult to say how fast the car was going at the time," Bergholm added.

A truck driver happened to stop at the barrier the same time the car fell off. He estimated that the car of the band was going at a speed of around 43 to 50 miles per hour.

The Warrington, England-based indie band was scheduled in perform at the Where is the Music? festival two days after the tragic incident.

Tarry's family issued a statement through the British Foreign Office, saying, "Craig was a warm, loving person who had worked tirelessly to achieve success and follow his dreams within the music industry."
