NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson's son, Earvin "EJ" Johnson III, 20, is gay, so what!
EJ made headlines Tuesday morning after being spotting in a luxurious black fur and hot red handbag out and about in LA on Sunset Strip hand-in-hand with his boyfriend.
While this is the first time that little Magic, one of the former Los Angeles Lakers star's three children has been publicaly ousted or acknowledged by the media for being gay, his sexual identity is a hot topic right now in America, as Gay marriage is a major issue.
Gay marriage debates aside Magic and Cookie Johnson support their son. "Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way," Magic told TMZ. "We're very proud of him."
Magic had his own bouts with his sexual identity coming into question, when he revealed that he was HIV positive in 1991, according to The Huffington Post. He promptly retired after announcing his condition, but came back to the NBA to play in the 1992 All-Star Game, but due to rejection from his teammates he retired again for four years. Johnson returned to the NBA in 1996 to play 32 games with the Lakers, before retiring for good later that same year.
It is no surprise that Magic and Cookie are supporting EJ; Magic showed his support for gay marriage in 2008, when he opposed Prop 8's clause which banned same sex marriage.
"Prop 8 singles out one group of Californians to be treated differently -- including members of our family, our friends, and our coworkers," Johnson said in a recorded telephone message sent to California voters. "That is not what California is about. So this Tuesday, vote no on Proposition 8. It is unfair and wrong. Thanks."
EJ, a student at New York University, is one of the many celebrity spawns who are gay, straight, or taken.
