In a recent interview, actress Kim Cattrall, best known for playing the man-eating character Samantha Jones on HBO's Sex and the City, revealed that her iconic performance almost didn't happen: when she was first approached to play the role, she turned it down several times because she feared she was too old to play that kind of character!

Appearing to Access Hollywood about her latest project, her series Sensitive Skin, Cattrall also took the time to reveal that she was very close to not playing her most iconic role ever, which even earned her a Golden Globe Award.

It seems that Cattrall had had numerous meetings with SatC creator Darren Star, where she refused to play join the cast time and again. At one point there was even another actress, still unnamed at this point, who was about to take the role of Samantha. Star called Cattrall and begged her to meet with him once more to discuss possibly joining the cast.

"She was ready to play the part and at the last minute Darren called me again and said, 'One more lunch! Please, one more lunch'," Cattrall recounted. "We had lunch, and I said, 'OK, the deal breaker is I don't want Samantha to have kids', and he said, 'You're on.' I never saw that character being a mom."

RTE reports that Cattrall also spoke about how Lisa Edelstein, the star of Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, was the second choice for the role of Carrie Bradshaw had Sarah Jessica Parker passed up on the role. Regarding the actress who could have been her co-star, Cattrall said that while it would have been a "totally different Carrie," she could "see it" happening.

According to People Magazine, Edelstein recently shared that she was very close to getting the role in the HBO comedy, and her contract had even been written in case Parker said no. Still, things also worked out for her, as she then enjoyed years' worth of success on television by starring in House, opposite Hugh Laurie.
