Fans of the upcoming Microsoft Studios third-person shooter game Quantum Break will be happy to know it will soon be released for play on Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. But disappointment is waiting for gamers who love to play via the widely popular gaming platform Steam.

In a Major Nelson podcast, an Xbox marketing staff member named Aaron Greenberg said Quantum Break won't be available on Steam. This is a bold move given Steam has over 125 million active users and offers over 4,000 games.

"Quantum Break on Windows 10 is a Windows Store exclusive," Greenberg claimed.

This is a perplexing move in the gaming industry given Steam is a huge marketplace and social media platform for gamers. What's even more perplexing is when the words of Kevin Unangst, senior director for PC gaming in the Xbox group, are taken into consideration.

In an interview with PC Gamer last August, Unangst claimed Xbox wanted to support Steam.

He said, "We are not intending to compete with Steam. If anything, we want Steam to be even more successful-they've done great things for PC gamers in terms of having a single store."

While he acknowledged that "competition [is] good for people", he also added that "our goal right now isn't to do anything else other than support Steam and help it run great on Windows 10."

What reason for the change of heart with regards to working with Steam could possibly be the recent report that a third of its users run Windows 10. The software giant Microsoft could very well want a bigger piece of the pie for Quantum Break by skipping the middleman.

Quantum Break will be released on April 15. A digital live-action series is currently in production. This will showcase digital episodes that users can enjoy with the game.
