If you've had your fill of Insidious 3, the Poltergeist remake and other horror flicks of 2015, brace yourselves. It's time to bring out the popcorn. This year's horror movies are worth keeping a wide eye out for. From ferocious dogs to the sequel to one of the scariest films of the last decade, you'll love the top 5recent  horror films of 2016.

The Witch (February 2016)

Robert Eggers directed this much-awaited film. Eggers brought home the Sundance Directing Award in the American Dramatic competition last year and it looks like 2016 box office has been rosy for him.

Focusing on the witch-hunt of the 17th century in New England, The Witch is sure to bring out chills and thrills. The film revolves around a Puritan family ostracized by their own community. They move out of their village and find themselves moving to a new location, one where evil resides. Pajiba wrote that the film "is dripping with anxiety."

The Pack (February 2016)

If you were a fan of Stephen King's Cujo, then The Pack just might be right up your dark alley. Dogs are typically portrayed as man's best friend but this movie strays from that norm.

The movie revolves around a farmer and his family fighting off a pack of ferocious dogs in an isolated house. It's Australian-made so any horror movie fan tired of the same American horror formula might find this refreshing.

Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist (June 2016)

Ed and Lorraine Warren, the real-life paranormal investigators whose names were on the lips of horror movie fans in 2013 (thanks to The Conjuring) will be honored once again in this year's The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist.

Fans of The Conjuring will be happy to know that Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return to fill in the roles of the Warrens. The first film was such a hit that Warner Bros. scheduled the sequel to premiere in the summer of 2016.

The Forest (January 2016)

If the scare supply that the forest and isolated farmhouse of The Witch and The Pack aren't sufficient for your horror fix, check out The Forest. It follows a woman who enters Japan's Suicide Forest to locate her missing twin sister. Instead, she finds herself facing supernatural horrors.

Before I Wake (April 2016)

Every little child has nightmares here and there. What happens if these nightmares manifest in reality? Before I Wake answers this question. An orphaned child's bad dreams occur in the physical world while he sleeps. Kate Bosworth plays his adopted mom.

Some people claim remakes are hot in the horror film genre because scriptwriters can't come up with new plots anymore. But it looks like plenty of the horror flicks this year prove these naysayers wrong.
