For the second time in less than 20 years, MGM has its eyes on The Thomas Crown Affair, a 1968 heist film that originally starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and was then remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and René Russo in the lead roles. Now, following the success of last year's Rocky sequel Creed, the studio eyes Michael B. Jordan for the title role in latest unnecessary remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is still in the earliest of development stages, and so far there's neither a writer nor a director attached to the film. However, after Jordan's very successful turn in the Ryan Coogler film, it seems MGM is planning on making the film as a starring vehicle for him.

So far, MGM hasn't confirmed the first reports of the film being made. The original movie from 1968, directed by Norman Jewison, saw the two leads parting in the end. On the contrary, the 1999 version, helmed by John McTiernan, saw Crown and the woman investigating him fleeing into the horizon in a happy ending.

Less than 20 years after the last time this film was remade, it feels absurd to have a third try at it. The choice seems odder considering that, in fact, both films were pretty good, and another attempt at fixing what's not broken could finally be the one attempt that actually drops the ball.

While Creed was a big success with audiences and critics alike last year, Jordan's other prospective big movie from 2015, Fantastic Four, was quite the opposite. Still, Jordan, who recently earned a NAACP Award as Entertainer of the Year, is positioning himself as one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood right now.

Oddly enough, however, the 29-year-old actor doesn't currently have any other projects in line for production -- but surely there could be at least one somewhat original movie in the works for him out there.
