A new marijuana poll from the Pew Research Center shows 52 percent of Americans support making pot legal while 45 percent are against it.

The new finding marks the first time in 40 years of polling that a majority of Americans have supported legalization, according to Global Post. Just one-third of Americans now believe smoking marijuana is "morally wrong," according to the poll, while 50 percent say it's not a moral issue.

Furthermore, those born in the '80's who are now between 18-32 years old favor legalizing the use of marijuana, up from just 36% in 2008, according to Pew Research Center data.

As public opinion has shifted, the politics of marijuana have become more complicated, according to the Washington Post.  Laws legalizing recreational marijuana use passed in Washington State and Colorado last year remain in limbo with the federal government's ban on production, possession and sale of the drug unchanged, reported The Washinton Post. Six in 10 Americans say federal laws should not be enforced in states that have decided to allow marijuana use.

Nevertheless, there are still partisan differences over legalizing marijuana use and whether smoking marijuana is morally wrong. Republicans and Democrats have similar views on enforcing marijuana laws: 57% of Republicans and 59% of Democrats say that the federal government should not enforce federal marijuana laws in states that permit its use, according to the study. Additionally, Substantial majorities of both Republicans (67%) and Democrats (71%) also say federal enforcement of marijuana laws is not worth the cost.

The bottomline is that more Americans are in favor of pot.  While marijuana and other recreational have always been popular in the music industry, celebrities, specifically, entertainment artists such as Snoop Lion, Wiz Khalifa, and Rihanna have promoted their use of marijuana via social networks.  The photos ganish comments from fans who are also in support of "mary jane."
