After last year's Spectre, it remains unclear whether Daniel Craig will return to the role of James Bond, which he has played for the last decade, or will quit playing MI6 agent 007. Confirmation remains pending, so a few actors' names have been tossed around, most frequently, Idris Elba's -- but he has a challenger now as his Thor co-star, Tom Hiddleston, has expressed interest in the role.

Hiddleston, most famous for his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (easily one of the most popular villains in the franchise), recently told UK outlet The Sunday Times that he'd definitely be up to play Britain's most famous secret agent.

"I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing," Hiddleston said of James Bond, via The Hollywood Reporter. "If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity. And I'm very aware of the physicality of the job. I would not take it lightly."

Maybe Loki and Heimdall could fight out the job opening in MI6 like they do in Game of Thrones but without the ridiculous amounts of violence.

Right after the rebooted Bond franchise introduced the character's most iconic villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Christoph Waltz), the future of the role remains unclear. Craig, who has been playing Bond since 2006's Casino Royale, has expressed certain discomfort with the role, but rumor has it he may be contractually obligated to make another film.

Before Craig, five other actors have played the role: Sean Connery (who originated it with Dr. No); George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. So far, Craig has made four films with varying box office success, though his portrayal of the role has been praised for its realistic grittiness, as he came to the franchise in a time it was getting so ridiculous there was even an invisible car.
