Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy and in last year's Force Awakens will be joined by everyone's favorite Wookiee, Chewbacca, in his own prequel story.

Bob Iger, chairman-CEO of Walt Disney Co., recently spoke to The Wrap about plans for the franchise, now that The Force Awakens has become the third highest-grossing film of all time. With several projects in the works, including this year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Han Solo standalone movie is one of the most fascinating ones -- and at last, he confirmed it would include the pilot's best friend.

"We have other [movies] in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy," Iger told the outlet. "And that'll come after Star Wars 8 in 2018. And then there'll be possibly be more thereafter."

It's still unclear whether Peter Mayhew, who has played Chewbacca in all three trilogies so far, will be reprising the role as a younger version of the Wookiee.

According to io9 Gizmodo, this is the first confirmation that Chewie will be part of the  film and, in general, among the first scraps of information regarding the project. A while back, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said the movie would cast an actor in his 20s to play Han, and so far that's the only information regarding the origin story.

During the same interview, Iger also revealed the timeframe of Rogue One: right before the very first film of the franchise, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The movie will tell the story of a band of rebels who are trying to gather intel (or, rather, the plans) for the original Death Star during Darth Vader's reign of terror.

Rogue One will premiere Dec. 16, while Star Wars Episode 8, currently filming, will hit theaters  Dec. 15, 2017.
