Fresh off starring in the third highest-grossing film of all time, Daisy Ridley's career is definitely taking off, after her star-making role in arguably the biggest franchise in the world. Now, the newcomer, whose only big role so far has been as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, might go down the Angelina Jolie route: she's being eyed for the role of Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot!

According to Deadline, Warner Bros and MGM are partnering up for a new version of the game adaptation. Ridley, a completely fresh face in the film industry, is being considered for the lead role. While she's not the only actress in the running, considering her smash hit with the Disney franchise last year, chances are she's at the top of the list for now.

The actress is currently shooting Episode 8 of the Star Wars franchise.

For now, Coming Soon reports that other people attached to the project are Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and scriptwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, whose sole other gig according to IMDb is the screenwriter for the upcoming Transformers 5 movie.

The film has been in early development for several years, but lack of general interest has kept it semi-shelved. However, a couple of years back the game series was rebooted with 2013's Tomb Raider and its follow-up from late 2015, Rise of the Tomb Raider, sparking new interest in the character.

The rebooted game features a much younger Lara Croft, and that's apparently the angle that film producers want to take for the new film series. Ridley who's 23, fits the proper age for the role; besides, unlike Jolie, she's actually English, like the original character.

Lara Croft is one of Jolie's most recognizable roles. The Oscar winner played the archeologist and adventures on two films, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its 2003 sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

Although no casting announcements have been made yet, the Tomb Raider reboot is marked as having a release date for some time in 2017.
