Olivia Wilde, currently on HBO's Vinyl, actually met star producer Martin Scorsese a few years back when she was trying to get a role in one of his films, the Leonardo DiCaprio-led The Wolf of Wall Street. In an interview with Howard Stern, Wilde revealed that Naomi Lapaglia, the role that turned Margot Robbie into a star, was taken from her for the strangest reason: she was deemed too old!

Wilde went on Stern's show on Tuesday and talked about some of the projects she's been involved with in the past few years, and the roles she's missed. When Stern asked her if she'd ever been turned out of a movie for being "so beautiful," she said she'd never gotten that, though she did hear once that she was "too sophisticated" for a part.

"The funniest thing I heard recently was, I heard that I was too sophisticated [for the part]. I thought, 'oh, that sounds nice. I like that feedback. I didn't get the part but I'm a very sophisticated person,'" Wilde said. "And then I found out later they actually said old."

Later in the interview, when discussing her new role as Bobby Cannavale's wife, Devon, in Vinyl, she revealed she didn't have to audition for the series because Scorsese had already seen her work, as she'd auditioned for Wolf of Wall Street.

Though Wilde didn't specify which part she lost out, the fairly male-centric movie basically just had one major female part, played by Robbie, with whom Wilde holds no grudges, saying she was "perfect."

Wilde is now 32 years old and Wolf of Wall Street came out in 2013, so she had to be 28 or 29 when she was auditioning for the part, six years older than Robbie. Just another episode of the growing tales of Hollywood ageism, including how Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway and nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal have shared they've lost roles over supposedly being too old to play parts.
