Brooks Ayers has admitted that some of the information that was put out in the public sphere was fabricated, including some of the medical documents, which he says was because he was tired of dealing with the issue in the public eye.
It was the cancer controversy that rocked the West Coast, as Ayers was at the center of speculation regarding his health during the last season of The Real Housewives of Orange County. While the star was dating Vicki Gunvalson, his condition was up for debate amongst all the housewives including Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow and Shannon Beador. According to a statement in Us Weekly, the star is opening up about his condition and relationship with Gunvalson.
"Having lived under public scrutiny for the prior five years along with being wrongfully positioned as something that I wasn't and knowing that I had a large battle ahead of me, I simply made a request to Vicki that we deal with this in a very private manner so as to keep out the noise of any questioning of my treatment choices moving forward," Ayers explained in a statement, according to PEOPLE. "I was approached by a few media outlets to confirm my diagnosis and made a calculated decision to address it via a statement and an on camera interview in hopes that we would 'put this to bed' and allow me to move forward in private."

However, as viewers saw the issue wasn't something that was dealt with privately.
He also claimed that the show definitely ended up coming in-between Gunvalson's and his relationship, as he said the stress was too much to handle.
"Vicki was my partner for five years and I believe the show was the demise of our relationship," the star explained, according to ET Online. "She is a woman of integrity and compassion, and would never lie about something so serious as this."
