Days after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters, plans for the DC Extended Universe continue with multiple films planned. One of the characters who débuted in the big screen on last weekend's Jusice League prequel event was metahuman Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa, who's getting his own standalone film in 2018 -- and director James Wan is already talking about the film's sea monsters!

Recently, Los Angeles Times caught up with the director (whose impressive resume includes Saw and last year's Furious 7) to discuss what the tone of his film will be. Wan made it pretty clear that he's looking to make a fun undersea movie -- the kind Aquaman deserves!

"I would love to capture the fun spirit of high-sea adventures, treasure hunts, sea monsters," Wan said, as comic book fans sighed all over.

The recently released Dawn of Justice runs for nearly three hours and it has a very dark tone; so much so that the film has been criticized for taking itself too seriously. Considering the Zack Snyder film is also the introduction to the grander DCEU scheme, fans are getting a bit concerned that follow-up movies of the Justice League will be just as gritty -- but Wan assures fans this won't be the case under the sea.

During WonderCon, the filmmaker spoke to IGN and discussed the growing concerns about the tone of the 2018 superhero film. Still, as Wan told the outlet, Aquaman has been made fun of a lot in the past few decades. There was even a Cartoon Network Aquaman ad where the character tried to communicate with canned tuna in a supermarket. so Momoa's portrayal of the role will be partially focused on bringing new life to the much-maligned king of the sea.

Still, there are a few movies coming out in the DCEU before Aquaman hits theaters. This year will see the release of superhero team-up Suicide Squad, and next year fans will get Wonder Woman and Justice League Part One, while the first 2018 release will be the Ezra Miller-led The Flash.

Aquaman, which will co-star Amber Heard as Mera, will reach theaters on July 27, 2018.
