IDW Publishing re-imagines the TMNT family as if they have the joined The Shredder and become part of The Foot Clan. In this gripping one-shot special, Splinter has to save his children, or else all hope is lost in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Deviations #1

As we previously mentioned, IDW continues with its Deviations series and imagines the Turtles being led by Shredder.  In our review of The X-Files: Deviations, Fox Mulder was replaced by his sister, Samantha. This time around, the Turtles have become full-fledged members of The Foot Clan and have sworn to hunt down their father, Splinter.

Writers Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz pinpoint the exact moment in City Fall, where to deviate from their mythology. What if it wasn't just Leonardo who was being mind-controlled by The Shredder? What if it was Leo and the rest of his brothers who swore their allegiance to Shredder? These Turtles are cruel and quite scary as they beat their father senseless.

The narrative is told from Splinter's point-of-view as he becomes part of every father's worst nightmare. Splinter has failed as a father to protect his children from the evils of the outside world. Because the Turtles are his children, Splinter cannot even raise his own hand against them.

The illustrations by artist Zach Howard and Cory Smith will remind readers of Eastman's early days on the title. The streets of New York are drawn in such a gritty and bleak background, harkening back to the '80s. Leo and his brothers are meant to be frightening as they wear the Foot's armor and red masks.

RATING: TAKE MY MONEY NOW

Out in stores now, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Deviations #1 has tons of jaw-dropping twists and lots of martial arts action!
