This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Miguel and Kendrick Lamar seem to have found kindred spirits in each other, as they have and will cross paths intentionally and otherwise throughout 2013. First, they graced the cover of Vibe together. Now, the 'Adorn' singer has called in K. Dot for a remix of his hit single "How Many Drinks?"
Miguel's part in the song remains mostly unchanged (unlike, say, Kendrick's part in the "B**ch, Don't Kill My Vibe" remix) before Lamar comes in for an amazing verse. He puts an unexpected (and dirty) twist on the hook for his song "Swimming Pools (Drank)" that goes in a completely different direction than the dark implications of the good kid, m.A.A.d city track.
I'll stop prattling for a second and let you listen to it:
"Kendrick is poised to be the next staple in hip-hop [and] I certainly intend on becoming that for R&B," Miguel said when discussing the "How Many Drinks?" remix with Vibe and it seems that the duo will be all up in each others business for the near future.
Both Miguel and Kendrick are set to headline the Jay-Z-helmed "Made In America" festival in Philadelphia, alongside one Mrs. Carter and fans should probably expect the two to share the stage at some point.
The sudden release of the single may have them sharing stages a bit sooner than that, however. Miguel is performing on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Will Kendrick (who killed it on SNL earlier this year) crash the stage for a surprise performance of the remix? Who knows?
What do you think? Is the remix of "How Many Drinks?" really awesome or only kind of awesome? Will you be seeing Kendrick Lamar and Miguel at the "Made In America" festival?
Sound off in the comments.
