Popular Indian television star Pratyusha Banerjee died on Friday, April 1, at the tender age of 24. Kamya Punjabi has spoken out following the tragic death of her friend and fellow actress, claiming that there might be foul play involved.

Banarjee was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Mumbai, India. Bollywood Life claimed that the young actress had become “extremely depressed” over her relationship with boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh.

“Her relationship was not good," Punjabi said. "She was going through a very rough patch in her life. She had distanced us away from her owing to her troubled relation (with Rahul).”

According to The Indian Express Punjabi also commented, “We don’t know whether it is suicide or not. But there were injury marks on her nose and cheeks. Now whether is it is suicide or not is something that police will disclose.”

Despite the alleged problem in their relationship, Singh noted that he was the one who took his girlfriend's body to the hospital.

"We used to stay in a 2 bedroom flat. We had two keys; one key was with Pratyusha and the other was with me," he said in a statement. "When I entered the bedroom, I found Pratyusha hanging from the ceiling. I got very scared."

He then added, "Immediately, I called the neighbors and with their help, I took her to Kokilaben Hospital. We assumed that she was alive, but she was not," he shared. "I got so scared that I did not inform the police. It was the hospital authorities who informed them. After the doctor’s declaration, I called up Pratyusha’s family members and few of our close friends."

Fans and friends of Banarjee in the Indian film and TV industries have expressed their sadness and shock at her untimely death.
