Beauty may be skin deep, but according to Charlize Theron, it doesn't lead to deep pockets.  The 40-year-old Prometheus actress believes she lost out on roles because she was too pretty.  So apparently being a tall, leggy South African born bombshell does have its downside.

The star of The Huntsman: Winter's War recently told British GQ "Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that's the end of the story. How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f------, gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I've been in the room and pretty people get turned away first."

Ironically, Theron may have a point about juicer roles being less glamourous.  She won her Best Actress Oscar in 2004 for the film Monster, a role that required her to gain 30 pounds and wear prosthetics to ugly her up.  She also received an Oscar nomination for portraying a harsh and rough iron minor in the 2005 film North Country.  More recently, in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, she wore a prosthetic arm and buzzed off all her hair.

The Golden Globe nominee also claimed to the Wall Street Journal that she turned down lots of roles that depended on being attractive for fear she'd be type cast into "babe" type roles. "I wasn't just thinking about the longevity of my career, it was that I wanted to explore different things.  I became aware I could build a career that would be more satisfying to me by saying no."

If Theron is correct about being beautiful preventing her from getting certain parts, here is a list of 5 roles that she potentially lost.

5) The role of "Hannah" in Girls

4) The role of "Amy" in Trainwreck

3) The role of "Becky" in Empire

2) The role of "Fat Amy" in the Pitch Perfect Movies

1) The role of "Bridget Jones" in Bridget Jones's Baby
