It's not easy to take on a comic book character that has already been immortalized in film, especially if the DC antihero in question is Jonah Hex. Although Josh Brolin turned in a great portrayal, the 2010 flick was still a box office flop. Nevertheless, will Johnathon Schaech play the gunslinger again on the CW in DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2?

Schaech recently spoke to ComicBook.com, where he lauded Brolin for his portrayal of the DC character in the film.

"He's a great actor," Schaech said of Brolin before explaining how he initially did his research on the Jonah Hex from the comics.

"What I did was, I kind of had an idea and I looked at all the ways the character would speak in the comic books and the way they wrote him," he said, stating that Brolin's performance was comparable to how the character was portrayed in the comics.

"They were pretty much very similar, you know with the twang, almost like there was a twang to him but not so hard-core," Schaech said.

In addition to reading the comic books, Schaech admitted he studied Brolin's portrayal in the ill-fated film.

"I did watch clips of Brolin to see how he did that," he said, adding that he was hoping to get some notes from the Hail, Caesar! actor on how he dealt with the prosthetics on his face.

"Also just for the effect, not that I'm a special effects artist, but when I got set in the chair I wanted to make sure that we had a unique take on it," Schaech said. "Also to take that I kind of remember most true from when I grew up."

Although the That Thing You Do! actor is currently a guest star on Legends, that doesn't mean that he isn't interested in returning as Jonah when Season 2 rolls in.

"Yeah, absolutely," Schaech said when asked if he wants to reprise the role in the second season. "I want to explore Jonah as deep as they want to go."

Jonah Hex will debut on the DC's Legends of Tomorrow episode titled "The Magnificent 8," which airs The CW on April 14.
