'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Cast Includes Draco Malfoy, J.K. Rowling Confirms

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the stage sequel of J.K. Rowling's beloved story about the Hogwarts-attending boy wizard, will hit London's West End this summer, and the author's already hard at work behind the scenes for it. On Twitter, she just revealed everyone's favorite Slytherin will make an appearance as well!

Taking to the social network as she usually does for big announcements, last Monday Rowling showed her 7.16 million fans the new wand designs for the Cursed Child play, with a brief explanation and the name of each wizard. However, surprise, surprise, aside from the obvious foursome (namely Harry and his wife Ginny, plus married couple Ron and Hermione), it turns out there's another addition to the cast: Draco Malfoy!

Draco, referred to as Malfoy during the better part of the books and films, was Harry's longtime rival in Hogwarts and Voldemort later sent him to kill Dumbledore. However, by the end of the last book of the series, The Deathly Hallows, it had become clear that the platinum blond wizard wasn't cut out for Death Eater life, and while he didn't end up becoming Harry's BFF, it appeared they did respect each other, even if it was from a distance.

In the series' epilogue, it's shown he married pure-blood fellow Slytherin witch Astoria Greengrass and had one son with her, the horribly named Scorpius Hyperion. Considering the Cursed Child story will revolve around Harry's youngest child, the also horribly named Albus Severus, it sounds possible that the little Malfoy will also be part of the play.

"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children," reads the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child synopsis. "While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open at the Palace Theatre London on July 30, though there will be previous starting in late May. Fans will be able to purchase first edition of the play's script on the day after the play premieres.
