It is a well known fact that Katherine Heigl and Shonda Rhimes had a falling out after the actress’ alleged diva-like behavior on the Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 set, which ultimately led to her Izzie Stevens dismissal. Now, the Roswell actress reveals how hurt she really was after the ABC departure and how she ended up in therapy.

“I didn’t feel good about my performance and there was a part of me that thought, because I had won the year before, that I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material,” Heigl told Howard Stern on Wednesday about why she removed her name.

So afterward, she did go and apologize to Rhimes to clear the air. “I was really embarrassed. So I went in to Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool. I should not have said that’…I shouldn’t have said anything publicly but at the time, I didn’t think anybody would notice.”

Heigl's actions provoked the ire of Rhimes and tainted her relationship with her co-stars. She left Grey's Anatomy in 2010 amid reports that she was difficult to work with. It led her to seek professional help and she started seeing a therapist.

She shared. "I was really struggling with it and how to not take it all personally and not to feel that there’s something really deeply wrong with me.”

Back in August 2015, Rhimes told TV Line that she’s thought about bringing Heigl’s character, Izzie Stevens, back to Seattle and to the now Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but decided against it, stating that she’ll never revisit Izzie’s story line again.

She revealed that she has absolutely no interest in bringing Katherine Heigl back to the series for any number of episodes.

When asked about the possibility of Izzie Stevens returning, Rhimes said “no,” shook her head and shut the interviewer down hard at ABC’s Television Critics Association press tour-themed bash at the Beverly Hilton on August 5.

“I’m done with that story," she said. "I’ve turned that idea over in my mind a thousand times and thought about how it would go. And I don’t think so.”
