Lloyd Kaufman's Toxic Avenger Marathon On El Rey Network For Earth Day Weekend 2016!

From the president of Troma Entertainment, director Lloyd Kaufman's Toxic Avenger series is getting its own El Rey Network Marathon. Watch the original installment, The Toxic Avenger, along with its four cult favorite sequels during the weekend of Earth Day 2016.

According to AV Club, El Rey Network is bringing viewers a Toxic Avenger marathon. Kicking off on Friday, April 22, the first installment follows 98 pound weakling Melvin Ferd. In his origin story, Melvin is suddenly transformed into the first superhero from Tromaville, New Jersey. With his trusty mop, The Toxic Avenger takes on corrupt government officials, low-rent criminals, and even falls in love as he protects the environment.

El Rey will also be airing the short-lived cartoon series, The Toxic Crusaders. If you remember the Police Academy and Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes animated shows, the meta and cheeky humor of Crusaders is definitely right up your alley. The rest of the lineup includes The Toxic Avenger Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part III, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. These low-budget and late night TV favorites have garnered a devoted cult following, especially at the New York Comic Con, over the years.

In an interview with the same site, the Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol.1 filmmaker describes the messages inside his projects, "The Toxic Avenger is a perfect example. Here's a movie that is environmentally involved before the environment became the puppy-dog of the media."

Kaufman adds, "Every movie that I've written or directed basically takes the premise that there is a conspiracy of the labor, the bureaucratic and the corporate elite, and that this conspiracy of elites is sucking dry the little people of Tromaville-sucking them of their financial and spiritual capital."

The Toxic Avenger Earth Day Marathon begins at 8pm on Friday April 22nd. The marathon continues and runs until Monday morning at 6am.
