Prince Facts: 'Brother Nelson' Became A Jehovah's Witness Back In 2001

If you are a Prince fanatic and wanted to know more facts about the singer's life, here's one that you probably didn't know about. Prince, whose real name was Prince Rogers Nelson was referred to as Brother Nelson when he became a Jehovah's Witness back in 2001.

According to People, Prince was apart of the St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall. One member, Anna Barry revealed that Prince was known to the congregation as "Brother Nelson." She claimed that the "Darling Nikki" singer was "in good standing, and would go door-to-door with the ministry."

Barry also said that Prince had a special territory, which including talking to celebrities about the religion. "He [witnessed] in the beginning. He had a very special territory. He was able to talk to those who the rest of us would never be able to talk to - celebrities, for example."

Prince didn't wear his flashy heels, and unique pants during Sunday services. Barry claimed that: "He would just have a suit and tie. You wouldn't have picked him out." She added, "You wouldn't have picked him out [from the rest of the congregation]."

Despite his famous title, Prince was considered just a regular man when it came to his faith, and the people he served with.

"He was accepted as our brother," Witness, Josephine Parker said. "He wasn't treated as maybe the world would treat him."

Parker reflected on the singer's "gentle soul," and said that he had a “mild spirit." She also said that she was looking forward to seeing Prince again. “I look forward to the time we can welcome him back on the Earth.”

A lot of people didn't believe that Prince was a Witness until he was seen knocking door-to-door in a neighborhood back in 2003.

A couple who lived in Eden Prairie, Minnesota found Prince at their doorstep with a Bible in his hand. Shocked, the Jewish couple allowed the singer inside of their home for a few minutes to talk. But later told Prince that they wouldn't be converting to Jehovah's Witness because they were Jewish. Plus, the Vikings were playing.

"My first thought is, 'Cool, cool, cool. He wants to use my house for a set,'" the woman remembered. "Then they [Prince was accompanied by Graham on this particular outing] start in on this Jehovah's Witnesses stuff."

She added, "They stayed for about 25 minutes. Left us a pamphlet."
