After the huge success of the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool earlier this year, the studio's set to make its second big release of 2016 in the comic book genre, X-Men: Apocalypse, a movie that includes some of the most iconic mutants from the Marvel library. In a new turn of events, the film's director has teased yet another character: will mutant villain The Blob pop up too?

Over the weekend, Singer took to Instagram to share a new snap from X-Men: Apocalypse, and it might have come with a spoiler: a seemingly defeated Blob just laying on the floor after a fight with Angel, who will be played by Ben Hardy in the upcoming film.

It seems Angel has just beat him in the fight, which could throw an interesting perspective: along with Psylocke, Storm and Magneto, Angel is actually one of Apocalypse's Horsemen in the film. Could The Blob actually be on the X-Men's team during Apocalypse?

In any case, this is the first we've heard of the very large mutant joining the cast, and there's no news as to who's playing him, nor the technology they used to make the character, though chances are it will be motion-capture. The Blob has already appeared in the X-Men universe, though before the First Class/Days of Future Past reboot: back in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the character was played by Kevin Durand in a fat suit.

Apocalypse is a direct sequel to Days of Future Past, and on this newly rebooted universe, things have changed from the X-Men we first saw on the big screen in 2000. Also, the film will also see the first mutant, the title's namesake played by Oscar Isaac, wreck havoc as he tries to take over the world for his side of the mutant fight.

X-Men: Apocalypse will reach theaters on May 27.
