Season 11 of Bones continues after its winter hiatus over on Fox. Are the married couple, Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) becoming "darker and scarer" after John Hodgins (TJ Thyne)' shocking twist!

In our finale recap, Aubrey (John Boyd) risked his life to save Hodgins as they unexpectedly found themselves near a bomb. Though the explosion sent them both to the hospital, Booth raced against the clock with Leslie (Sara Rue) to find the cop-killer. Just when Arrastoo (Pej Vahdat) begged for a second chance from Camille (Tamara Taylor), Hodgins told Angela (Michaela Conlin) that he wanted to have kids. Unfortunately, the couple discovered the explosion has left Hodgins paralyzed.

In the recent recaps, while Brennan and Booth were working on their cases, Hodgins wanted to believe his phantom pains meant so much more. Hodgins' optimism was crushed by very own doctor. John would have to accept that he could never walk again. But nothing could have prepared the team as Hodgins' depression takes an overwhelming turn on all of them.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-showrunner and executive producer Michael Peterson discusses the theme of this week's upcoming episode, "Episode 13 is nothing compared to what we have coming. We're going to go darker, scarier. We will have episodes where you will want to wear a seatbelt. I started in this business writing horror ... That was something that I wanted to get back to."

Peterson adds, "We really wanted to spook, and we also wanted to go to a villain who kind of sees the world like Brennan does. This is somebody who looks at skeletons and can see them as real people, and that's Brennan, but she is the good side of this. But there is a very dark side to what she does."

Bones continues Thursdays on Fox 8pm.
