This week, the world celebrated the unofficial geek holiday of Alien Day, which meant the release of a lot of new information about upcoming projects from the franchise Ridley Scott first directed in 1979. Besides news from the upcoming Sigourney Weaver-starring Alien 5, the Prometheus 2 sequel Alien: Covenant is filming right now -- and we just got the first look at the Weyland-Yutani Corporation!

The first photo released from Scott's sequel is a close-up from a crew path from the Weyland-Yutani Corporation's uniform with the word "Covenant." As IGN points out, the merger of the two companies teases how Covenant will be closer to the original Alien timeline than Prometheus. It was previously announced the sequel will be set 10 years after its predecessor.

Weyland Corp appears on Prometheus as a solo company, while the merged version has also appeared on Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem and a number of comics set on the films' universe.

Michael Fassbender will return for Covenant, though Noomi Rapace will be absent this time around. Other actors joining the cast include Katherine Watson (from Inherent Vice), comedian Danny McBride (Eastbound, This Is the End), Carmen Ejogo (Selma, The Purge: Anarchy) and Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Almost Famous).

"Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition," reads the synopsis, via The Independent.

This movie's the second of a Prometheus trilogy, as plans to expand the Alien universe continue. Neill Blomkamp (the South African director behind Chappie and District 9) will be helming Alien 5, a project that will bring Weaver back as Ellen Ripley. The film has been announced as a reboot of sorts, skipping the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. Currently, the fifth part of the franchise is on hold while Scott works on Covenant.

Alien: Covenant will be released on August 4, 2017.
