After a lot of talks between managers and producers, nearing the end of filming for the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls, Seasons, it was finally announced weeks back that Melissa McCarthy would be returning to the role of Sookie St. James, her first regular one in a major series, in the reboot. Now, the superstar funny woman speaks out about coming back to Stars Hollow -- and it's been an emotional ride.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with McCarthy last Tuesday in New York City. Of course they took the time to ask the Oscar nominee what was it like to come back to Gilmore Girls nearly a decade after the show ended.

"For the longest time it was just not going to work out schedule-wise. And once we decided is there any possible way, something fell out for me, something changed for them, and then we immediately nabbed it," the actress told the outlet.

"I went back and visited about two weeks ago and saw the sets again and everybody on them."

She went on to add that her time visiting the set was "so sad" and she got "so sentimental" returning to Stars Hollow. Although she described the experience as "overwhelming," it was also the "absolute right thing to do."

McCarthy has gone on to do great things since leaving Gilmore Girls. In the near-decade since the show aired its last episode in 2007, McCarthy co-starred in Samantha Who? and later in her own show, Mike & Molly, which earned her an Emmy Award. She' was also an Academy Award nominee for her hilarious work in Bridesmaids. And she's gone on to become one of the most exciting names in comedy, starring in the all-female reboot of cult classic Ghostbusters later this year.

As People Magazine reports, she was most recently honored in the TIME 100 gala earlier this week.
