WGN America has announced the Season 2 renewal of their new original drama, Underground. After last night's shocking Episode 8, Grave, what will Noah (Aldis Hodge) and Rosalee (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) happen to them in the first season finale?

As we previously mentioned, the period drama takes place in the antebellum South as a band of plantation slaves attempt to make a perilous escape. During this time period, the slaves at the plantation risk everything for a chance at freedom. They all want to head on over to the North and escape to the Underground Railroad. Underground will also examine the lives of slaveholders, slave hunters, and abolitionists.

According to Variety, WGN America has announced Underground will return for a sophomore season, with a 10-episode arc. Production for the second season will commence during this summer. Don't forget to check out our recap of Grave here:

Matt Cherniss, President and General Manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios, reveals his excitement for the renewal, "With enormous pride we are announcing a second season of 'Underground,' a series that has resonated with so many passionate fans across the country. We are deeply proud of the work that the talented cast, crew and production team have done to bring this story to life, led by our gifted creators Misha Green and Joe Pokaski and our partners at Sony Pictures Television."

Due to its large and loyal fan base that live tweets the series each week, the WGN drama started trended, on the same day the U.S. Department of Treasury made their announcement. Abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who led many enslaved people to freedom on the Underground Railroad, will appear on the face of $20 bill.
