Production for the latest major Stephen King adaptation, the star-filled Dark Tower movie, continues to go forward, and there seem to be two new cast members joining Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba: Katheryn Winnick and young Sundance actor Michael Barbieri!

Variety reported earlier this week that the 38-year-old Vikings actress had joined the King adaptation, which is the first in a planned series of movie, in an undisclosed role, though producing studios MRC and Sony Pictures declined to comment about it.

Currently, the movie is well into its second week in production, shooting in South Africa.

In the meantime, according to Deadline, 14-year-old Barbieri is currently "deep in talks" to join the Dark Tower cast, playing the role of Timmy, a friend of the character of Jake Chambers, a role for which Tom Taylor has already been confirmed. Barbieri recently starred in Ira Sachs' Little Men, which premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

So far, confirmed cast members aside Elba (who will play Roland "The Gunslinger" Deschain), McConaughey (The Man in Black) and previously mentioned Taylor include Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, Abby Lee as Tirana and Fran Kranz as Pimli.

Behind the scenes, the people involved in the project include Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man) adapted King's first Dark Tower novel The Gunslinger into a screenplay, in and the film is set to be directed by Nikolaj Arcel, the man who wrote the Swedish adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Ron Howard is set to produce.

"The Gunslinger tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World's last gunslinger, who is tracking an enigmatic magician known only as the man in black. Following his quarry across the demon-infested Mohaine Desert, Roland confronts a mad preacher woman and her murderous flock, holds palaver with a speaking demon, and finally befriends a young boy from our world named Jake Chambers," reads the book's synopsis on King's website. "Jake joins Roland on his quest, but while Roland travels with his young companion Jake, the man in black travels with Roland's soul in his pocket."

The Dark Tower will reach theaters on Feb. 17, 2017.
