The devastating Boston Marathon explosions may have been an aggressive statement to the country at large, but they had some very personal consequences.

Krystle Campbell, a 29-year old bomb victim, was taken from her family and friends as a result of the attack.

Patty Campbell, Krystle's Mother, made a tearful statement in front of her house in Medford Mass. on Tuesday afternoon.

"Everybody that knew her loved her," she told the Huffington Post.  "She had a heart of gold. She was always smiling. You couldn't ask for a better daughter. I can't believe this has happened. She was such a hard worker at everything she did. This doesn't make any sense."

Krystal and her friend Karen were on Boylston Street, near the marathon finish line, when the bombs detonated, Lillian Campbell, Krystle's grandmother, told the Boston Globe.

For her family, the trauma of their losing their daughter in the attack was worsened by a mix-up at the hospital.  The family was initially told that their daughter had survived the attacks only to find out later that she was dead, according to WCVB.

It wasn't until after William and Patty Campbell were finally able to see the patient that they realized it was not their daughter but her friend, Karen Rand, who had been thought to be dead, according to WCVB.

"I said, 'That's not my daughter, that's Karen! Where's my daughter?'" Patty Campbell told WCVB.

Krystal is remembered by her family members for being caring and devoted.  She took care of her grandmother after surgery and stayed with her for about two years.

"She was right there for me," Lillian told the Huffington Post. "I needed her and she was there. She was a giving girl, a loving girl. And I loved her. She was my special little one."

Krystle's father, William Campbell, told Yahoo, "My daughter was the most lovable girl.  She helped everybody and I'm just so shocked right now. We're just devastated."

Her friends and co-workers from her job at Jasper White's Summer Shack, where she worked for nine years, only had positive things to say about her as well.

"She was an integral part of our organization, particularly in running our Boston Harbor Island location," Jasper White said in a statement to the press. "Krystle touched my life, and the lives of all our employees with her constant smile and joyful personality. She was beloved by all of us, and we will miss her deeply. We also extend our heartfelt sympathy and send our prayers out to her family."

"[She was] the first one to come over and give you a hug. She was an angel. I'll tell ya -- we're devastated," Steve Sillivan, who used to see her when he took pictures there for celebrity chef events, told the Huffington Post.

Krystle Campbell would have turned 30 this May.  She was one of three people who were killed by the Boston explosions and each person had their own story.  Martin Richard, another victim, died at only 8-years-old.

In addition, more than 170 people were wounded in the attack and some remain in critical condition, according to NPR.
