Days before Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters, co-star Jeff Goldblum is already preparing for his next role in a blockbuster, as it's been announced he'll be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year's threequel, Thor: Ragnarok -- so what can we expect from Goldblum's performance as the Grandmaster?

Promoting the sequel to the 1997 disaster movie, Goldblum recently sat down to talk to Empire Magazine about dipping his toe in the new wave of superhero movies. Explaining he'd be shooting in Australia for "three weeks or a month" for Ragnarok, the 63-year-old actor revealed his take on the next blockbuster role he's scheduled to play.

"He's a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker," Goldblum said of the Marvel Grandmaster, "an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, 'I can do that, I'll bet!' I'm working on my part every day. I'm a sponge, researching."

It also seems like director Taika Waititi (who helmed the hilarious 2014 mockumentary, What We Do in the Shadows) is encouraging Goldblum to do some improvising with the role, which is always great news when it comes to great actors like the ones that will be appearing on this movie.

Thor: Ragnarok will see Chris Hemsworth returning to the role of the Asgardian prince, with Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins returning to their respective roles of Loki, Heimdall and Odin. Another MCU veteran, Mark Ruffalo, will also be part of the movie, reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk.

Besides Goldblum, new additions to the cast also include two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett as villainess Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge and Creed's Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

Thor and The Hulk were both notably absent from this year's superhero showdown Captain America: Civil War, though they were mentioned by Banner-hating Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt). Ragnarok will show what the two superheroes have been up to since the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, in a film that Ruffalo has described as "a universal road movie."

It's also worth noting that Joe and Anthon Russo, who directed Civil War and are scheduled to direct the two Avengers: Infinity War movies, mentioned a few months back that Ragnarok would mark a big point in the MCU: the film will see the start of the war against Josh Brolin's Thanos, an event that will supposedly bring all the characters from the MCU together, even the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
