The release of the adaptation to Alan Moore's Batman: The Killing Joke is weeks away, and that means DC is prepping up fans to what could be the greatest feat in their already impressive one-off saga. This week, the Warner company released the first full clip from the film, with Kevin Conroy's Batman facing Mark Hamill's Joker ... and it's completely amazing.

Last Tuesday, DC Entertainment released the first full clip from The Killing Joke on their official YouTube channel, along with a series of announcements about special toy box sets of the Suicide Squad movie. Unless you want to see a few Harley Quinn Funkos, you can skip right ahead to the 3:55 mark to see some animated goodness.

In the clip, Batman goes up to The Joker's cell in Arkham and confronts him about their many years fighting each other. On the clip, the Caped Crusader says there's only one way for this bitter rivalry to end: either he must kill the Joker, or the other way around. Across the table from him, the villain arranges his deck of cards, silently, as Batman's monologue becomes more vehement.

Batman: The Killing Joke will be the first R-Rated film to come out of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, and it will adapt one of the most divisive (and yet iconic) tales in Batman's publishing history. The original comic book marks the most accepted origin story for The Joker's madness, exploring the theme of how one bad day turned a normal family man into the most terrifying villain in graphic novels.

The comic has been controversial for decades on one account besides its general violence: its treatment of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. In Moore's original story, The Joker kidnaps the superheroine and, after she barely speaks, leaves her handicapped and possibly a victim of sexual violence ... and all of this happens so The Joker makes a point to her father, Commissioner James Gordon.

Months back, it was revealed that the animated adaptation, while staying as close to the original source as possible, would give more substance to the character of Barbara (voiced by Tara Strong), giving an introduction to her career as Batgirl before the brutal events that turn her into Oracle.

The film will be released digitally on July 26 and on DVD and Blu-Ray on Aug. 2 -- but, while you wait for the adaptation, be sure to watch this amazing remake of the trailer in the style of the original graphic novel!
