Did Crossbones REALLY Die on 'Captain America: Civil War'? Frank Grillo Teases MCU Character

Brock Rumlow, also known as Crossbones, is one of the biggest Steve Rogers foes in the comic books, but he's had a relatively minor role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, and the character was even killed off early in this year's smash Captain America: Civil War -- but was he? Frank Grillo, who has played the supervillain since The Winter Soldier, just raised some serious doubts.

According to ABC News, Grillo was recently promoting his latest film, The Purge: Election Year, when the topic of his Marvel death came up -- and he doesn't seem to be too sure that audiences saw the last of his character.

"You think he dies, don't you? Did you see the body?" the actor teased. "That happened last time. I'm not saying anything except that ... you didn't see a body."

When Brock Rumlow first appeared in the MCU, on 2014's Winter Soldier, he was left for dead during the S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA conflict, but he ended up surviving -- only disfigured and holding a massive grudge.

In Civil War, he seemed to blow up to smithereens in an attack that helped spark the entire conflict of the film: when Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) tries to save Captain America (Chris Evans) from blowing up, her magic results in massive civilian casualties, prompting the creation of the Sokovia Accords, an attempt to create checks-and-balances for superheroes.

But while Crossbones seemed to die, this is a comic book adaptation, and this means characters can come back to life at any point. Some of the characters we thought had died but ultimately survived include Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Agent Philip Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) -- and Crossbones has already fake died on us once, why wouldn't he do it again?

So far, there's no Captain America 4 announced, but the character could very well appear in another MCU film also featuring Steve Rogers -- most likely, the Avengers: Infinity War movies. A few months back, film directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed there are a lot of characters involved in those two movies, so why not have Crossbones back as well?

Screen Rant reports that Grillo has a multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios, so it wouldn't be surprising he'd return if they decide the character is alive at the end of the day. Still, the actor could also just be messing with fans heads, so who knows?
