Star Olympian Ryan Lochte's refusal to admit the truth about the robbery accusation against the Rio police is causing him more trouble as the other members of the U.S. swim team already testified that he fabricated the story.

On the other hand, while the other team members are being questioned in Rio, he seems to be having a good time posing with a flight attendant as shown in the latter's Instagram. Moreover, Lochte recently was in a social media video with Elizabeth Beisel on her birthday and it showed the two of them laughing while they used filters to morph themselves.

The international community was reportedly in an uproar at the start of the season when the 12-time Olympic medalist told the chilling story of a gunpoint robbery that he and his teammates endured at the hands of the Brazilian police. This account sparked concern for the athletes as the security provided by the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics management was questioned.

Lochte claimed that "...the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead, and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up. I was like, 'Whatever.'" This was followed by the accusation that the police also robbed them. The traumatizing experience obviously even alarmed the U.S. authorities.

However, Lochte's allegations backfired as it was discovered that he was pointedly lying. CCTV images revealed that the drunk Lochte and his teammates had a brawl with security officers. They allegedly destroyed a bathroom door and to cover up the issue, they had to resort to accusing officials. This led to speculations that the American swim team is hiding something. Daily Mail Online sources supported the allegation against them, proving that they also refused to pay for the damages done.

A security surveillance video was released showing "...the supposed victims arriving without signs of being physically or psychologically shaken, even joking amongst themselves," as Judge Keyla Blanc de Cnop pointed out.

The news became the cause of another kind of outrage both in Rio de Janeiro and U.S. The effect was so severe that the US Olympic Committee (USOC) had to apologize publicly in order to mitigate the issue. They also said that "The behavior of these athletes is not acceptable, nor does it represent the values of Team USA or the conduct of the vast majority of its members. We will further review the matter, and any potential consequences for the athletes, when we return to the United States."

The severity of the matter was coupled by the fact that the coming from the U.S. State Department regarding the "high incidences of crime, including armed robberies" in Rio already showed the country in a bad light. Ryan Lochte's accusations just heightened the concern about national security and it definitely promulgated the Brazilian police's inability to manage important events such as the Olympics.
