Miriam Santiago, The Philippines' Iron Lady, has passed away; Loses the battle to Cancer

Former Senator Miriam Defender Santiago lost to cancer last Thursday morning. She passed away on Sept 29, 2016 at exactly 8:52 am Philippine time.

As reported by GMA News, her husband Atty. Jun Santiago mentioned that, "she died peacefully this morning".

According to CNN, she was already diagnosed with lung cancer back in 2014. During her presidential candidacy. Miriam showed up the least in campaigning due to signs of weaknesses. Although she told CNN Philippines that she's absolutely normal and feels great because of an anticancer pill that she was taking. Miriam did admit as well that there would be times that she needed to catch her breath and she would often lose her sense of balance.

Miriam Santiago was known as the "Iron Lady of Asia". She fought against graft and corruption in the Philippines with her colourful use of words and was also known to be very fiery as a senator. She has passed countless amounts of bills when she was senator. Miriam was also know to have been able to serve all of the three branches of the Philippine goverment, judicial, executive and legislative.

She was in Executive positions after the revolt in EDSA. Miriam started her career as Senator back in 1995. She was suppose to take a post in the International Criminal Court, but her lung cancer stopped her from doing so. Her health was given priority. 

Miriam Santiago was born Jun 15, 1945. Asides running for the recent May 2016 Presidential election to whom she lost to Rodrigo Duterte, she also ran at 1992 that was won by Fidel V Ramos and 1998 that was won by Joseph Estrada.

Because of her death she leaves her husband Atty. Jun Santiago and one son. Many Filipinos are saddened because of a loss of a great political figure of their country.
