Elon Musk is eyeing bigger perspectives and plans that are soon to be realized if he will be able to get the funding he requires from the US government. The future is just one call away, as it looks like we could soon be holidaying on Mars under normal circumstances. Martian materials with added solar energy can create a fuel to bring us from Mars and back to Planet Earth again.

According to Forbes, Mars has an atmosphere which is abundant with carbon dioxide. And we cannot breathe with lots of carbon dioxide in the air for it would suffocate us without space suits.

Musk hopes that by mining for Martian ice in soil on Mars and liberating the liquid water held within it, he can then combine this with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The combination would create methane and oxygen when the two elements burn together it will release energy and get us home.

Musk also explained that for the components to react and produce methane and fuel, we need to add energy. At the same time, he hopes to harvest the needed energy from the Sun, through using large solar panels in outer space. A reaction will be driven by this power until a propellant plant can be created on Mars.

As published in an article from NASA, plants can be grown and harvested from the self-sustaining farm in "The Martian." This space farming is looking forward by NASA to expand the amount and type of crops to help meet the nutritional needs of not only future astronauts on Mars but also for Martian tourists.

And if growing plants are possible, the propellant plant can also be established and in a possible operational use, though may take real time of investment. Once it becomes successful, it will allow flights to travel lighter, with less mass and more space for Martian tourists.
