The devastating storm, Hurricane Mathew, has left a devastating mark to where it passed by. The storm did create a fuss but sure did leave something else rather than floods. Recently, it has been found in a beach near Charleston an uncovered group of civil war era cannonballs.

According to WLTX, the city of Folly Beach which is found near Charleston found 16 uncovered civil war canon balls. It was in the ordinance that the cannonballs will be detonated and brought to the Navy in order to be examined. It was locals of Little Oak Island who found the civil war canon balls named John and Judy Manzi. A friend of theirs uncovered it.

According to USA Today, public information officer Eric Watson said that the canon balls were discovered early in the afternoon on Sunday. The officials were not able to attend to it as soon as they can because of the high tide. They had to wait for the tide to go down. Members of the U.S. Air Force explosives team utilised a C-4 to detonate the canon balls on the beach.

It was said that there was a gun emplacement in that area during the Civil War. It could have been a stack of canon balls since it was found uncovered all together. These were both exploding and non exploding type shells.

USA Today mentioned that Folly beach has always been known to have seen the likes of shipwrecks, pirates, the Cival War and hurricanes. This area was occupied by 13,000 federal troops back in 1863 Civil War. Soldiers would build forts and other necessary military equipment during that time.

The island was also know to be utilized as a strategic location and base for the Union battle to take over Fort Wagner. This guarded Charleston harbour from Morris Island.
