Mitt Romney, former Republican presidential nominee, complimented President Obama on his address at an interfaith service in remembrance of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing on Thursday.

In his address, Obama encouraged the city of Boston to remain hopeful.  "As you begin this long journey of recovery, your city is with you. Your commonwealth is with you. Your country is with you. We will all be with you as you learn to stand and walk and, yes, run again. Of that I have no doubt. You will run again," he said, according to The Huffington Post.

"I thought the president gave a superb address to the people of this city and the state and the nation," Romney said in an interview on CNN's 'The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,' on Thursday. "It was an inspiring day."

He also emphasized the importance of learning from terror attacks such as this one and spoke about how his faith is important in times of crisis.

"This is a learning opportunity," Romney said in the interview with CNN. "We should learn the lessons that come from this and apply them to the extent that we possibly can."

In addition, when asked if he was interested in work on a security commission in order to study the terror attacks and create a plan of how to avoid future attacks,  Romney  said he wouldn't  miss a call to prevent violence.

"I believe very deeply that we have a creator and that He loves us and cares for us," Romney said to CNN.  "But when He actually intervenes in the affairs of the people on this earth - it's something that happens only rarely - and when that happens and why that happens and who that happens to is something that we don't understand."

Romney told CNN that he is strengthened when he sees a community come together during tragedy.  "This is a time when your faith in God is enhanced by seeing the goodness of the men and women He's created," he said.

Romney, himself, has deep ties to Boston, according to CNN.  The city was where he ran his presidential campaign and now he serves as a chairman of a Boston-based committee called Solamere Capitol, an investment firm founded by his eldest son, Tagg.

"In the hours after the attacks on Monday, Romney sent a tweet out from his account saying, 'Our hearts are heavy with the news out of Boston today. #PrayforBoston,'" according to The Boston Globe.

Democratic Governor Deval Patrick invited Romney and other Massachusetts dignitaries, past and present, to the ceremony at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

This was only the second time Romney has been at the same venue as President Obama since the election in November, according to The Boston Globe.

Romney said that he and the president did not speak to one another during the event, according to UPI.
